i guess it is kind of right to say that singaporeans are schizo. In the TNP article "Are we schizo?" (pp 10 - 11, 27 July 2008), it is mentioned that we are a model for a "growing worldwide phenomenon" where although highly educated and well-travelled, we have little qualms about trading "some freedoms in return for prosperity or security", thereby creating a pact between ourselves and the government or the worldly matters. we react in ways that others might view as being weird or laid-back. we do not riot when fuel prices go up, we do not camp outside some ministry agency when the rice prices shot up incredibly.. we just sat back and waited, stock up on sacks and sacks of rice (there were four 10kg sacks lying around my house at one point in time), all we probably do is to write in to forum to complain. we may seem resign, but frankly, what can we do otherwise? we bear the pain of the rising costs, we just go to work every day knowing that without work we will not survive... not the most healthy way, but wat to do?
oh well..
