I didn't post yesterday as it was just a day of teaching then back to the hotel. wanted to go out after eating, but was tired.. stay in to prepare for next week's assembly talks. Still not done yet! hmm...
I woke up early today to meet some teachers from the school to go for this Refugee Experience at Crossroads Hong Kong. It is a non-profit organisation that serves as a platform for businesses to help those in need. It functions like Food from the Heart in Singapore in the way that it matches the needs to what businesses can provide. Crossroads helps in 4 different ways, Global Distribution, Global Hands, Global Handicrafts, Global Village. Global Distribution is to collect donated items then sending them to countries that need them, Global Hands links for-profit and non-profit orgs to combat global need, Global Handicrafts ensures fair trade by setting prices of items based on what the ppl who make/plant them deserve to get and Global Village provides people with experiences to allow them to feel for those in need. They have the Blindness experience, the aids experience, the refugee experience and others.. the one i attended is the refugee experience. It was an eye-opener. it was a simulation with us playing the roles of the ppl in Afghanistan and the volunteers there acted as the soldiers. It was a scary experience. We were shouted at, pushed about and made to feel helpless. It made me think how we are really lucky where we are. It must be terrible to live in constant fear and being clueless about the future. I took on the role of a 17 year old woman called Maryam. I was married and pregnant with no money. The women had to wear head scarves, couldn't talk to men unless they are immediate family and just treated like dirt. It made me think of the Afghan women raped and then killed or punished even though they didn't want or deserve to be raped. I started to feel angry for them. we are humans too, aren't we? why are we still treated like that?
anyway, the whole point of the refugee experience was to feel and understand the refugees. i had a better understanding of the world and the ugliness of it all. However, i am glad there are ppl who still care enough to do all these. One day, i hope to do more. there are many ways to go about it. i would like to do something more... hmm.. dear! shall we?? hee hee..

received a call and heard about the 28 year old lawyer who was held hostage and then killed in Mumbai. I was shocked. The news hit home and it was a blow. Why? I just read the news and saw her picture. she's young and pretty.. i am sorry she had to leave in such a manner. my deepest condolences... :(
on a lighter note, i went to Lantau Island after the experience. it was nice.. i like that place! took the cable car from Tung Chung Station and went up! the cable cars started like 6 months ago? it's cool.. damn cold up on the mountains! it was sunny, but realli cold too! very weird. the retuen trip costs HK$88. quite worth it. the trip back was really cold as the sun has set and the cable car was swaying in the winds.. woo.. a little scary but the trip was worth it! enjoyed the trip there! the Buddha statue was huge! very grand too! saw Anita Mui's final resting place too..
after that went to eat at Food Republic. Yup, the same one in Singapore. the food was expensive! but it's the only eating place there! in the same mall, there are factory outlets of all sorts! Polo Ralph, Giodarno, Espirit, Puma, Adiddas and so on.. but i didn't get anything.. haha... nearly bought a pair pf shoes for my nephew! but no size. too small. haiz.. oh well.. the espirit there is big! but it was crowded.. too many ppl.. was tired so no mood to squeeze with all the ppl.
my skin is very dry even though i've been applying moisturizer!! must apply more!! so so so dry!! haiz.. tom i'll go out for a while then come back to do work. hmm.. not much time to do alreadi. must hurry... heard my nephew has been taking my bears to sleepwith him.. so sweet.. hee hee.. can't wait to see him again!!!
